CANINE HEALTH FOUNDATION (CHF)

The mission of the AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF)  is to develop significant resources for basic and applied health research, with emphasis on canine genetics, to improve the quality of life for dogs and their owners.  The Foundation supports research programs that study the causes of canine disease in order to prevent those diseases and to formulate effective treatments.  The FBDCA has a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) under the CHF tax-free umbrella, so that donations made to our DAF are tax-deductible.  Please visit the CHF website at www.akcchf.org for more information about this vital organization of which the FBDCA has been a supporter and member since 1995.

To download information about all of the research projects that our club has funded click here.  At the top of the document is a list of the project titles and amounts of the grants; scroll down to read abstracts and objectives of the various proposals.

The FBDCA Health & Genetics Committee represents the club to the AKC Canine Health Foundation by:
• Sending a committee member to the biennial CHF Parent Club Health Conference.
• Raising money through our Memorial Fund and with the annual CHF Art Auction at the National Specialty to support the Frenchie Donor Advised Fund.
• Working with the CHF in making recommendations to the FBDCA as to funding of research proposals dealing with health issues of importance to French Bulldogs, based on information gained in health surveys.

(You can also donate online through the CHF website via Paypal, a credit card, or check, but be sure to designate FBDCA French Bulldog Donor Advised Fund as a recipient, and give the name and address of the person to be notified of any donation in memory or in honor of a dog or person.)

CANINE HEALTH INFORMATION CENTER (CHIC)

Our club has a DNA Repository for Frenchie DNA in CHIC.  The DNA samples in that repository are used by canine health researchers working on a variety of health issues.  To read more about this program, click here.

Special Needs

French Bulldogs have special needs and are not for everyone.  Living with them is not the same as looking at them and admiring them.  See whether this is the breed for you.
