Avoiding A Bad Decision

UNDERSTAND
Yes, Frenchies are really, really cute.  They also look very tough.  BUT, they are not working dogs, they are bred to be the light of your life, particularly if you like waiting on and spoiling a four legged friend.  So don't go by how you think they look, learn about what they are really like on this site.

ACQUIRE So you saw a French bulldog in a movie, on the street, or on TV, and now you MUST have one.  Before you dash off and buy one from a newspaper ad, a pet store, or an internet website, please spend some time learning about the breed.  You can save yourself a lot of heartache and money by using the information on this website to educate yourself about Frenchies and about how to find a good one.

OWN Owning a Frenchies is a major commitment.  These are not "outside" dogs, they are not dogs that walk themselves.  These are dogs that become family members.  Some of them are good with children, some of them are not, some are couch potatoes, some are prey driven.  You will have to be prepared to pay attention and learn just what the personality of your Frenchie is.

COMPETE Frenchies are shown in Conformation events -- that much you probably guessed.  And these days, Frenchies also appear in Obedience, Rally, and (believe it or not) Agility events.  So there are opportunities for competing with your Frenchie in several types of events.  Learn about this here.

JUDGE The FBDCA is very active in developing effective Judges education programs for those who are judges or training to be judges in the American Kennel Club.  Frenchies are not the easiest dogs to judge.  We believe that it is in the best interests of the breed to provide superior education.

Notes from our Independent Specialty Judge
It was a pleasure to judge the French Bulldog Classes at the 111th National Specialty.  Both the size of the entry and the quality of the dogs were as good as I’ve seen anywhere.   The puppy classes were my favorite (there was more than one I wanted to take home) and I look forward to...
